The initiative, listed as Question 4 on the ballot, allows adults over 21-years-old to possess, smoke and grow marijuana which will become effective in July 2023.

Those over 21 will be able to possess up to 1.5 ounces of marijuana beginning on July 1, 2023. Until July, marijuana will remain illegal but decriminalized in Maryland. Decriminalization will be expanded from 10 grams to 1.5 ounces from Jan. 1, 2023 until June 30, 2023.

The initiative will also allow residents to grow marijuana up to two marijuana plants at home as long it is out of the public view. Lawmakers are in the process of outlining the sale of recreational marijuana.
